The Ross on Wye Horizon Centre CIC is a social enterprise that was formed to meet an urgent need for a day centre for adults with learning and other disabilities. When the previous day centre closed its doors in October 2017, we felt compelled to start a new one in Ross on Wye to ensure that the service would continue locally. This adult day service was originally provided by Herefordshire Council, then ‘subcontracted’ to the Brandon Trust but after three years they decided to not continue and, when no other organisation came forward, the service was closed.
Like many people, we feel strongly that there should be a local day centre that provides an innovative, vibrant and person-centre service for those who need the support and assistance. Many people rely on day centres in order to meet with friends and feel part of their community. The Horizon Centre is also an asset to the local community, providing volunteering opportunities, short courses, and a superb venue for meetings and events.
Unfortunately, the timing of the previous centre closure and our start up meant that we had little time to raise the necessary funding so are relying primarily on goodwill, local grants and some of our redundancy monies. Fortunately, we are three quite brave and resourceful women who continue to look into all avenues of funding, including donations/sponsorship from local organisations and businesses. If you would like to help us with fundraising or make a donation please go to our just giving page or contact us on 01989 253131.
